About Course
The 6th Grade Literature and Composition class solidifies the language arts skills taught in the lower grades and lays the foundation for more analytical writing and reading continued in the upper school. With an emphasis toward clarity, students begin by writing illustrative short paragraphs utilizing narration, description, and examples. In addition to reading beautiful short stories and students will read great poetry. Students will become familiar with the following literary elements: Alliteration, Metaphor, Personification, Onomatopoeia, Simile, Hyperbole, Litotes/Meiosis, Idiom. Proficiency with figurative language prepares students to more closely read poetry and rich literature.<br><br>This rigorous 6th Grade curriculum is designed to be both comprehensive and flexible. Each subject is delivered through instructional videos and self-paced, asynchronous assignments, allowing students to progress at a pace that suits their individual learning style. Parents or guardians will assist scholars in completing assignments sequentially, ensuring mastery of each concept before moving forward. The course offers flexibility for families while maintaining high educational standards, promoting both independent learning and guided support where needed.
